Headsets X Headphone: Know the Difference
Surely, at some point you have come across two very similar terms when buying accessories for your company's call center or even to study or use at home. We are referring to headsets and headphones.
This confusion between the two is common among people, after all, as the names are similar, some people think they are the same thing. But, in this article, we will introduce you to each of them and the main differences, so that you can choose the ideal one for your needs. Enjoy your reading!
Headphone
Signifies literally headphone. It was invented around 1910 by Nathaniel Baldwin, who sold his product to the US Navy, but never obtained a patent. The equipment, when resting on the head, allows the user to have his hands free while listening to the sound.
It has two headsets and is ideal for those who want to listen to music, watch movies or improve concentration. It can be connected to various devices, such as computers, cell phones, tablets and laptops. In addition, it is available in wired or wireless versions, and the connection can be made via a P2 or USB cable.
Unlike headsets, headphones do not have an external microphone, which is the main difference between them. However, it is possible to find some models with a built-in microphone.
Headset
When it first appeared, it was only used for communication, but over time new functionalities were implemented. Today, there are headsets with excellent audio quality for listening to music, watching movies, but with the advantage of a high-quality microphone.
Despite this, there is no exact history of how it appeared, but its name means: headset, that is, it is a set of headsets + microphone.
Due to its practicality, headsets are widely used in professional environments. The models used in call centers, for example, have the headset on one side only to comply with current legislation and avoid hearing problems for employees, since the user can alternate sides during the working day.
However, you can have one or two headsets. Binaural headsets are usually special for gaming, as the player often needs to talk to other team members, for example.
Their connection can vary depending on the model, depending on how they can be connected, to the computer, smartphone or tablet, by plug, USB cable, bluetooth or even wirelessly!
